Delhaize Expands MGR Presence

Mega Image, a subsidiary of Belgian retailer Delhaize, has announced plans to open eight new stores in 2009 in the Romanian capital Bucharest. The company hopes to reach a target of 48 stores in the country by the end of 2009. In September, Delhaize acquired 14 La Fourmi supermarkets for US$23.5m. La Fourmi established itself as the first supermarket chain in Romania in 1992, and therefore benefits from a strong customer base.
