SABMiller to Brew Beer in Sudan
December 2008 | Company News AlertGlobal beer and soft drinks giant SABMiller has announced that it will launch a new lager in South Sudan in February 2009. It will be the first beer produced there since the region's last brewery was closed down 25 years ago. Alcohol was banned in Sudan in 1983 after the northern Khartoum-based government introduced Sharia law. However, a peace deal in 2005 allowed the country's south the right to a semi-autonomous secular government.
