Konzum Boosts Presence With Acquisition

According to online news source SEEbiz, Konzum, Croatia's leading retail chain with a market share of around 30% (BMI estimate), has acquired Bosnian-Herzegovinian retailer Tom Chain. Konzum entered the country in 2004 and is aiming to grow its presence in the relatively unsaturated mass grocery retail (MGR) market. Despite its market leading position in Croatia, the sector is competitive and the market is relatively small (the country's population was 4.60mn in 2008), which makes regional expansion attractive.
