Tesco and Ahold Set To Press Forward

Slovakia's mass grocery retail (MGR) sector is likely to continue attracting investment from foreign majors in 2009 despite the weakened state of its economy - we foresee a GDP contraction of 0.9% this year. UK-based Tesco and Dutch retailer Ahold have revealed that they are set to open new stores across the supermarket and convenience segments. Earlier this month, BMI reported that Tesco was planning to launch 130 new stores across Central and Eastern Europe in 2009 as it aims to reduce its reliance on the competitive UK MGR
