Beer Prices Up

March 2009 | Company News Alert

Mozambique's dominant brewer Cervejas de Mocambique (CDM) has announced that it will raise the price of its beer labels by 7.6%. CDM has a monopolistic market share of around 98% (BMI estimate) in the country and produces popular brands such as 2M, Manica and Laurentina. The brewer, which is a subsidiary of international brewing giant SABMiller, has blamed the rising prices of imported raw materials for the hike, although it claims that the price increase passed on to consumers will be lower than the higher costs it will have to absorb and Mozambique's forecasted inflation rate in 2009.
