May 2009 | Company News Alert

South-Africa based Tiger Foods has posted a 23% year-on-year (y-o-y) increase in operating income for its domestic foods business to ZAR131mn (US$15.4mn) in H1 (financial period from September 30 2008 to March 31 2009). BMI believes that Tiger's food business is well equipped to ride out the economic storm through H2 (we have forecast South Africa's economy to contract by 0.3% in 2009). The majority of its food brands are positioned in segments that are relatively well buffered as they make up essential rather than discretionary components of most consumers' diets.
