CBD Records Buoyant Same-Store Sales Growth

Brazil's largest grocery retailer, Companhia Brasileira de Distribuição (CBD), has reported that its net sales in the second quarter of 2009 increased by 18.1% to BRL5.0bn (US$2.5bn). Same-store sales increased by 13.2%, representing real growth of 7.6% after adjusting for inflation as measured by the IPCA consumer price index. These strong results come against a difficult economic backdrop and highlight the resilience of CBD's business model, which incorporates a wide range of store formats.
