Having made Australia the focus of efforts to improve its international footprint and diversify away from its saturated domestic market, Japanese brewing major Kirin is now looking to consolidate its position with a bid for the shares it does not already hold in Lion Nathan. If successful in its bid for the outstanding 53.87% of the brewer, Kirin would then move to merge Lion Nathan with its local soft drink and dairy businesses, creating a highly synergised Australian food and drink
