SABMiller Doubles Capacity In Fledgling Market

SABMiller's Ugandan arm Nile Breweries has effectively doubled its production capacity at its Jinja-based brewery to about 1.8mn hectolitres by investing US$29mn. With per capita beer consumption currently sitting at just six litres, lower than both neighbouring Kenya and Tanzania, significant scope for growth remains in a country with a population that is expected to climb above 40mn by 2015. The market leading brewer's decision to scale up capacity comes after its volume sales increased by a bullish 9% year-on-year in SABMiller's fiscal year through to March 2009.
