German Organic Sector Demonstrates Resilience
August 2009 | Industry Trend AnalysisA study by GFK Panel Services has found that sales of organic products in Germany fell by 4% in the first half of 2009. The fall was attributed to a 2% year-on-year fall in prices and a 2% drop in volumes. Despite these negative data the survey also found that 85% of German households had purchased at least one organic product during the period. The drop in sales is certainly bad news for the beleaguered sector, yet the decline is less rapid than in markets where the organic sector is less developed, suggesting that a return to growth is on
