PepsiAmericas Set To Launch New US$150mn Plant

Leading PepsiCo bottler PepsiAmericas is poised to begin manufacturing at its new Romanian plant after shelling out a reported US$150mn. The plant, which it claims is the largest of its European network, will be located on the outskirts of the EU-member state's capital Bucharest. We note that earlier in August 2009, PepsiCo reached an agreement to acquire PepsiAmericas and Pepsi Bottling Group, its two core bottlers for US$7.8bn. PepsiAmericas, which in 2006 acquired full-ownership of its long-standing Romanian bottler Quadrant Amroq Beverages (QAB), will be aiming to close the gap on Coca-Cola HBC Romania, the carbonates market leader.
