Diageo Arm Bumps Up Capital Expenditure Budget By US$33.7mn

Fresh off reporting year-on-year (y-o-y) turnover growth of 6% to KES34.4bn (US$453.3mn) in the year to June 2009, Diageo's East Africa-region brewing unit East African Breweries Limited (EABL) has scaled up its capital expenditure budget by US$33.7mn, which is set to be invested into its Kenyan and Ugandan operations. Following SABMiller's capacity doubling in Uganda - East Africa's only truly competitive beer market - BMI believes EABL is likely to place a particular emphasis on the country with its dominant but underperforming position in Kenya continuing to serve as the springboard for regional expansion.
