Ahold To Strengthen Food Focus
September 2009 | Company News AlertPushing through measures aimed at placing more emphasis on food, Netherlands-based mass grocery retailer (MGR) Ahold is reducing the shelf space of many of its non-food items at its Hypernova operated hypermarkets in the Czech Republic. Ahold is currently in the process of rebranding its hypermarket stores to its revitalised Albert banner, which previously operated exclusively in the supermarket category. Together with the increased focus on food, the amalgamation of Ahold's hypermarket and supermarket operations should make its business leaner and more efficient while also bolstering the strength of its brand, which would be particularly useful under the current climate.
