US$50mn Biscuit Plant Part Of Kraft's Russian Growth Strategy

US food and drink behemoth Kraft Foods has opened a US$50mn biscuit manufacturing plant in Russia, as part of an ongoing initiative to improve its chocolate, biscuit and coffee ranges. Russia is one of Kraft's core growth markets. Although 2009 is proving to be a particularly hard year for Russian consumers, with retail sales still underperforming, the country remains a key emerging market. We forecast that headline food consumption will increase by 55.6%, to RUB11,054.8bn (US$377bn), between now and 2014.
