Convenience Roll-out Reaffirms Thai Commitment

With its recent departure from Russia, just months after opening its first store in the country, leaving it unable to shake off speculation concerning its future in emerging markets, French retail giant Carrefour has reaffirmed its commitment to Thailand with the unveiling of its first convenience store in the country. In unveiling its first 300m² Carrefour City outlet in Bangkok, Carrefour will enter a sector in which BMI expects sales to grow by 63% to 2014; outstripping our wider industry forecast of 46%. However, Carrefour will also find that it is entering a sector in which competition is hotting up.
