Premium Positioning Could Contribute To Food Self-Sufficiency
November 2009 | Industry Trend AnalysisThe food processing arm of South Korean conglomerate CJ Corporation has lent weight to the country's food self-sufficiency drive by revealing that it is seeing a growing audience for, and an increasingly premium perception of, foods produced using Korea-grown ingredients. A net food importer by a distance, running a food and beverage trade deficit of US$9.8bn in 2009, according to BMI estimates, such a shift in consumer preferences is unlikely to reverse the country's fortunes though it should add further momentum to self-sufficiency
