SouqExtra! Convenience Concept Officially Launched

The pioneering SouqExtra! supercentre concept has been launched in Dubai, with a further 75 launches expected across the UAE and the Middle East over the next 10 years. Targeting community neighbourhoods, the centres many amenities include high value modern convenience stores operated by the premium grocer Spinneys Dubai. Expected to contribute just 4.5% to wider mass grocery retail (MGR) sales in the UAE in 2009, the convenience store category is highly underdeveloped and the industry is heavily skewed to the hypermarket segment in particular.
