Nestlé Shuts Down Production
December 2009 | Company News AlertNestlé is reported to have temporarily suspended its Zimbabwean operation according to the state controlled Herald newspaper. The likely pull back comes after the firm controversially sourced a portion of its milk supply from a dairy owned by the family of long-serving ZANU-PF leader Robert Mugabe, a process that was ended in October 2009. Nestlé turned to the controversial source after a privately-owned marketing company that controlled the country's dairy industry proved to be incapable of making purchases, which reportedly forced its hand given the lack of suitable alternatives.
