Nestlé Shuts Down Production

Nestlé is reported to have temporarily suspended its Zimbabwean operation according to the state controlled Herald newspaper. The likely pull back comes after the firm controversially sourced a portion of its milk supply from a dairy owned by the family of long-serving ZANU-PF leader Robert Mugabe, a process that was ended in October 2009. Nestlé turned to the controversial source after a privately-owned marketing company that controlled the country's dairy industry proved to be incapable of making purchases, which reportedly forced its hand given the lack of suitable alternatives.
