E-Land Persists With Discount Focus

South Korean grocery wholesale and fashion retail company E-Land Group is reaffirming its commitment to discounting with the opening of a discount shopping mall catering for the country's low-to-middle income population. Discounting is among three trends to dominate South Korean retailing in recent years, the others being online shopping and overseas expansion by domestic players. While E-Land might have reduced its presence in this important sub-sector with the disposal of its discount hypermarket network in 2008, its mall plans show that discounting remains integral to its strategy in this price-conscious market.
