Revolutionary Aldi Eyes New Zealand Presence

Having had a major impact on the Australian mass grocery retail (MGR) industry since its arrival in the country in 2001, German discount major Aldi is now reportedly considering expanding into New Zealand. The retailer is reported to be seeking suitable sites in the country in a move that would put it into competition with the existing duopoly, NZ Foodstuffs and Woolworths-owned Progressive Grocers. However, having managed to build up a market share that BMI estimates at a significant 3% in the equally competitive Australian market, the battle is unlikely to phase Aldi, particularly given how well suited the discount
