Further Soft Drinks Investments Anticipated

Following improvements in its security situation and the steady pursuit of economic liberalisation, Iraq's re-emergence as an increasingly viable centre for investment is expected to gather momentum in 2010 with its underdeveloped fast-moving consumer goods industry expected to attract investment from Gulf and wider Middle Eastern food and beverage (F&D) firms. A further boost to the country's growing allure is that - discounting the hydrocarbon sector - foreign firms are permitted 100% ownership. BMI believes that Iraq's promising soft drinks industry could emerge as the most significant recipient of foreign direct investment within F&D in 2010.
