Beer Sales Register Biggest Drop For 11 Years

The German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) has reported that beer sales in Germany totalled 100mn hectolitres (hl) in 2009. The figure was down by 2.9mn hl from the previous year, a fall of 2.8%. Sales have fallen every year since Germany hosted the 2006 World Cup but the decline in 2009 was the sharpest fall for 11 years (see chart).
