Cargill Seeking Permission For US$110mn Plant

US agricultural giant Cargill is requesting permission to construct a EGP600mn (US$109.71mn) sugar refinery plant in Egypt according to al-Borsa. The plant is expected to come onstream one year after approval is granted. Approval is likely bearing in mind that the government is actively encouraging domestic sugar production to try and tighten the sugar trade net deficit - estimated by BMI to have been 0.919mn tonnes in FY09.
