Gulf Outperforms For Pernod Ricard

Somewhat paradoxically given widespread restrictions on the sale of alcohol in the region, the Gulf outperformed a number of Pernod Ricard's more established markets in 2009, with value sales strengthening despite an inevitable cutback in demand for ultra premium brands. Picking up off a particularly low base, the formal sale of alcohol is largely restricted (and restrictions are rigorously imposed) to hotels and airport's duty-free areas in most of the Gulf, with most alcohol consumption accounted for by expatriates - with a specific emphasis on airports, tourists and transit
