Danone Set To 'Open' Russian Regions

French dairy giant Danone's chairman and CEO Franck Riboud announced at the group's February 11 2010 earnings conference that Russia's underdeveloped east regions will figure prominently in the group's 2010 growth strategy. The world's largest fresh dairy producer, Danone is well established in Russia with a strong dairy market share of about 15% according to Nielsen, which BMI points out is particularly impressive given the strength of the dairy industry in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region and consumers' partiality towards regional brands. We note that in the year to December 2009, Danone's net income increased 7.5% year-on-year (y-o-y)
