Carrefour Shutters Belgium Stores As Looks to Reinvigorate European Operations

French retail giant Carrefour has reported a dip in like-for-like sales for 2009, weighed down by difficulties in France and the rest of Europe. The retailer reported total sales of EUR96.17bn for the year, down 0.2% at constant exchange rates, while like-for-like sales at constant exchange rates, excluding petrol, dropped by 1.8%. Like-for-like sales in France fell by 0.8% while in the rest of Europe they dipped by 4.7%. In Latin America like-for-like sales were up by 5.4% but the firm also struggled in Asia, where they dipped by 4.5%.
