Arla Reports Sales Slip In 2009

Denmark-based dairy company Arla Foods has posted a drop in sales but a rise in profits for 2009. In the 12 months to the end of December, Arla's revenues came in 6.5% lower at DKK46.23bn (US$8.32bn). Operating profits increased by 22% to DDK1.41bn and net profits were up 74% at DDK971mn. The drop in revenues was attributed to falls in demand and global dairy prices, along with the weakening of sterling, the US dollar and the Swedish krona against the Danish kroner. However, in response, the firm adopted a comprehensive savings programme that helped it post an increase in profits
