EMKE Widening Footprint As Organised Retail Transition Gathers Pace

UAE-based conglomerate EMKE Group, owner of the Emirate's leading Lulu branded supermarkets and hypermarket, has announced plans to invest AED900mn (US$245.06mn) on five new Lulu stores in Oman in 2010. With organised retail penetration still fairly subdued across much of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), we agree with the growing emphasis paid by EMKE to emerging retail markets outside the UAE.
