Brasil Foods Reports Positive Earnings But Continues To Be Hampered By Delayed Antitrust Decision

Brazil's largest food firm Brasil Foods (BRF) has reported a recovery in its operating performance for the first quarter of 2010. The business, which was formed after Perdigão agreed to acquire debt-laden local rival Sadia, reported revenues that were largely unchanged (on a pro forma basis) coming in at BRL5.047bn. However, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation surged by 148% to BRL447mn, while net income reached BRL53mn, compared to a loss of BRL462.5mn in the same period a year prior.
