New Import Regulations Will Boost Coffee Exports To Japan
May 2010 | Industry Trend AnalysisBMI believes that Brazil is to further cement its status as the world's leading coffee producer and exporter, after Japan announced on May 17 that it is relaxing its fungicide limits on imported coffee. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare announced that within the next two months it would raise the allowable level of pyraclostrobin, a fungicide, to 0.3 parts per million (ppm) from the current 0.01ppm, after Brazilian officials had argued for years that the level was 'absurdly low'. Despite Brazil being Japan's largest coffee supplier in 2009, the change in rules will further benefit Brazilian coffee producers
