Possible Agreement With Mercusor Could Boost Pork Exports

Although some EU farmers will undoubtedly suffer if a free trade agreement between Mercosur and the EU comes to fruition, BMI believes that the German pork sector will stand to benefit from the new export opportunities, due to the efficient nature of the sector and its increased competitiveness owing to a weaker euro. The new opportunity is particularly important since German domestic demand - indeed EU pork demand as a whole - is expected to decline slightly over our forecast period.
