Expansion Of Convenience Will Continue To Take Sales From Hypermarkets

French grocery retailer Les Mousquetaires has announced a new focus on smaller outlets as it looks to take advantage of the convenience trend that is reshaping the French retail landscape. The firm has said it will begin rolling out a new Intermache Express banner, with 24 stores due to open in 2010, and plans to increase the number of Netto stores it operates to 600 within the next three years. The move fits with BMI's expectations for a rapid increase in more convenient retail formats - a trend that can partly account for the current demise of the hypermarket sector,
