Ireland's Unsaturated Retail Market Could Attract New Entrants
September 2010 | Industry Trend AnalysisThe chief executive of Ireland's National Consumer Agency has suggested that 'competitive pricing is still not a feature of the Irish grocery market' and to address this there is a 'real need for a new entrant to the market'. The comments come after the agency conducted a survey of the three leading retailers, which found little price differential between branded goods in Tesco, Dunnes Stores and Superquinn. Although prices were found to have fallen significantly during the first half of 2009, the organisation reports that they have remained static ever since and suggested that supermarkets were guilty of cartel behaviour.
