Luxury Drinks Back In Demand But Short-Term Outlook Less Rosy

The latest industry figures point to renewed demand for luxury French alcoholic drinks, with sales of Champagne and Cognac rebounding during the first six months of 2010. The trade group for the Champagne industry reports that global sales volumes increased by nearly 40% during the first six months of 2010, with shipments to EU countries increasing by 27.3% and shipments to non-EU countries increasing by 60.6%. Meanwhile, volume sales of Cognac surged by 11% in the 12 months to the end of July, according to trade body BNIC.
