Private Label Growth To Continue Putting Pressure On Branded Producers

Market researchers Nielsen have reported that private labels accounted for 41% of the Spanish food and drink market during July 2010, up from 39.5% in the same month of 2009. Nielsen reports that sales of private labels grew by 5.6% during the month, while branded products recorded a drop of 3%. The market share for private labels in Spain was already growing before the economic downturn, but a rapid drop in consumer confidence has greatly expedited this trend.
