Tate & Lyle Offloads Sugar Business (As Advocated By BMI)

British ingredients producer Tate & Lyle has announced that it will sell a large chunk of its sugar business to American Sugar Refining for GBP211mn. The move is part of a strategy to focus on value-added products and comes at a time when the global sugar sector is consolidating. BMI has previously suggested that the firm was too small to be a major player in the sugar field and that it would be wise to divest the unit.
