October 2010 | Company ProfileOver the last six years Unilever has successfully orchestrated a turnaround and has gone from being a perpetual underperformer, to one of the most dynamic companies in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. The firm's previous position can be attributed to a clumsy management structure and lack of competitiveness, but over the past six years it has successfully reorganised. This has seen the number of top managers reduced by 50% and included the closure of over 50 manufacturing sites. This process has lifted and stabilised the firm's profit margins, which had previously been unusually volatile and dipped below 5%
