High Inflation Could Put Downwards Pressure On Brazil Retail Sales Growth

Brazil's largest retailer Companhia Brasileira de Distribuição (CBD) has reported a slight slowdown in its sales growth for the final quarter of 2010. In the three months to December 2010, CBD's like-for-like sales advanced by 11.5%, which compares to growth of 12.5% in the third quarter and an increase of 12.1% for the year as a whole. The company's total sales for the year advanced by 38% to BRL32.1bn (US$18.9bn) having been bolstered by two acquisitions in the durable goods segment.
