Slovenia's biggest retail group Mercator is being challenged by a hostile takeover bid by Serbian retailer Delta Holding. According to media reports, billionaire businessmen Milorad Miskovic and Milan Beko are ready to launch a takeover bid with capital from a consortium of Russia-based investors, despite the fact that both Mercator's management and the Slovenian government are against the deal. Yet it will be difficult to acquire majority shares of Mercator, as the bulk of shares is held by Slovenian companies Istrabenz and Pivovarna Lasko who have expressed no interest in selling their stakes.
