Abu-Dhabi-based food and retail group Emke has announced that it will bring its hypermarket chain to Bahrain. With a BHD50mn (US$132.6mn) investment over the next two years, the company will open a chain of hypermarkets in the country. Through its Lulu supermarkets and hypermarkets the group, which is the UAE's largest retailer, is a major player in the region's mass grocery retail (MGR) industry. Currently Emke operates a network of 57 outlets throughout the region, including Qatar, Oman, Kenya and Yemen, and has plans to open at least four hypermarkets in Bahrain.
