German discounter Lidl has made its Slovenian market entry, opening 15 stores across the country, with plans to open another 10 stores in the short term. Lidl is now the sixth discount retailer present in the Slovenian market, joining foreign-owned chains Hofer and Eurospin, and domestic operators Hardi, Plus and Hura, which is run by local retail giant Mercator. As with its other markets, Lidl will use a hard discount format with a limited product range of mostly private-labelled products.
