According to reports in the local press, German discount retailer Aldi will open its first discount stores in Hungary in 2008. The first wave of openings will involve establishing around two dozen outlets in eight large cities, including Budapest, Debrecen, Gyõr, Miskolc, Pécs, Szeged, Veszprém and Zalaegerszeg. Long term, the company believes that there is room for up to 400 stores in the country, and is currently trying to recruit staff and locate property to rent or buy in towns with a population of over 15,000 inhabitants.
