In a move that will have major repercussions for both the alcoholic drinks and tourism industries, Estonia's Ministry of Finance has presented a draft plan to increase alcohol tax by 20% effective from January 2008. The government had originally planned to implement a 10% tax hike, but decided that this measure would not be strong enough. This is a part of a broader tax reform package that will also raise taxes on tobacco and fuel.
