Wal-Mart Seeking Inorganic Expansion

US retail giant Wal-Mart has reportedly acquired three Argentine hypermarket sites from Spanish construction firm San José in a deal worth US$30mn. The locations, which formerly belonged to now-departed Dutch retailer Ahold, will greatly assist Wal-Mart in its aim of opening 12 new supercentres in the next two years. Acquisitions of this nature are an increasing rarity in the crowded Argentine mass grocery retail sector, and Wal-Mart's transaction should help prevent it from becoming a mere bit-part player in this potentially profitable
