Bulgaria's milk farmers have been staging nationwide protests to demand higher state subsidies for their sector. In Sofia alone around 200 dairy farmers have been displaying cows they say have starved to death due to high feed prices. According to a government report, the Bulgarian dairy industry has been operating at a loss over the past six months, as feed prices have more than doubled, due to poor crops last year, while milk prices have risen by only 30% over the same time period.
