With the world's attention fixed on rapidly rising food prices, many companies are starting to recognise the need to increase their ties with farmers. Recently, a number of food and drink producers, as well as retailers, have announced their plans to expand their relationship with African farmers as they look to improve their sourcing. A number of global drinks giants, such as Heineken and Diageo, have been working with local farmers to grow sorghum, which they are increasingly using in their local brewing.
