Loblaw Moves Towards Sustainable Seafood Policy, Trend Creates Opportunities In Aquaculture

Canadian retailer Loblaw has announced it will only sell sustainably sourced seafood at its stores by the end of 2013. The move will cover all canned, frozen, fresh, wild and farmed seafood products and the company has purportedly established sustainable seafood procurement practices in every category, but has admitted that it may be required to make 'hard choices' that could see the phasing-out of certain products. With more of the world's largest retailers being pressurised to go down this path, the market for ocean-caught fish could eventually start to diminish while the market for sustainably sourced farmed fish could see
